Rules
Rank is the bid. Quality is still the point.
TopArticles is a public leaderboard for discovering writing. There are no copied articles and no paid editorial endorsements. You pay for position; readers decide what is worth their time.
How ranking works
- Bids are whole US dollars. A new listing starts at $2, and each increase must be at least $1.
- Rank is determined by the current bid — nothing else. Paying less than the #1 price still places an article wherever that bid belongs.
- If two or more people bid the same amount, whoever paid first keeps the higher rank. The next person at that price is next, and so on.
- Anyone may raise an article already on the board. Enter the same canonical URL and choose a bid high enough to take the rank you want.
- Raising a live listing charges only the difference. If an article is at $30 and you take it to $100, you pay $70.
- The board stays live. Rank changes when someone outbids — there is no daily or weekly reset.
What you can submit
- A real, publicly accessible article, essay, newsletter post, or other useful piece of writing available over HTTPS.
- You must confirm that you are permitted to submit or promote this content. Anyone may bid, including on a listing they did not originally submit.
- Submit the original source URL. Submitting the same canonical article again updates its existing listing instead of creating a duplicate.
- Common tracking, referral, and share parameters are removed when the URL is normalized.
- Private pages, downloads, link shorteners, and pages that are not primarily articles do not belong on the board.
Prohibited listings
- Malware, deceptive links or downloads, impersonation, fake articles, misleading duplicate URLs, spam, and attempts to manipulate the board are prohibited.
- Illegal products or content, pornography, explicit adult content, and destinations that put readers at risk are not permitted.
- A listing may be removed if its source stops working, changes substantially, or no longer points to eligible writing.
After you pay
- Stripe collects the billing address at checkout. EU billing addresses are not accepted; if one is used, the payment is canceled or refunded and the listing is not published.
- Canadian buyers may see GST/HST added on top of the bid. Other regions are charged the bid amount unless a tax registration is added later.
- A completed payment publishes the listing or activates its new bid. An attempted or failed payment does not claim a rank.
- The board recalculates immediately from all active bids. Automated acceptance and paid placement are not editorial endorsements.
- Placement does not guarantee clicks, readership, subscribers, sales, revenue, or any other outcome.
- Readers are sent to the original publisher. TopArticles does not place itself between the reader and the article.
Attribution and source links
- Every listing identifies and links to the original source and credits the author when that information is available.
- TopArticles displays only source metadata such as the title, author, publisher-provided description, and article preview image. It does not generate summaries or republish article text.
- Readers are sent directly to the publisher to read the work. TopArticles does not claim authorship of submitted articles.
Removal and moderation
- Listings may be rejected or removed for abuse, unsafe destinations, rights complaints, prohibited content, or rule violations.
- Automated parsing or acceptance does not prevent TopArticles from reviewing and removing a listing later.
- Rules may be updated as new abuse patterns appear.
